My name is McKenzie Reilly and I teach kindergarten here at Northeast! This is my third year teaching at Northeast and my 7th year teaching kindergarten. I have a bachelors in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Early Childhood education, as well as a Masters in Literacy. In my classroom I place a lot of importance in high purposeful play. This means that students will be have numerous opportunities to learn a variety of topics through play. This year in kindergarten we will be learning 88 sight words that we will use, along with various other phonemic strategies to help your child learn to read and write in full sentences (this is my favorite part of teaching kindergarten). We will also be diving into many number sense strategies that will help students to add and subtract so that they are ready for 1st grade. This year will create a lot of new challenges to over come, however I am confident that we will create a learning environment that will teach each student what they need to know for 1st grade as well as keep everyone safe!
